Halkidiki can be reached by bus from Thessaloniki. There are buses that run daily and several times per day, throughout the year to various locations in Halkidiki, including Polygyros, Ouranoupolis, Nea Moudania, Pefkohori, Arnea, Kallithea, and many others. The trip duration varies depending on the location. Buses depart from Halkidiki Bus (KTEL) Station at the 9th km of the New National Road Thessaloniki - Nea Moudania.
For many, the most common choice of transportation is to take a public bus that reaches some of the nearest villages and towns of Halkidiki. The upside of this option is the cheap tickets – with the long bus ride being a major drawback. The only other transportation company that offers bus rides to almost every town in Halkidiki is KTEL Chalkidikis whose bus station is 9km away from the airport, easily reached by taxi. Another way to reach KTEL Chalkidikis bus station is by taking the public bus line 79 from the airport to the bus stop “Emporiko Kentro IKEA” and from there hop on the bus line 36 which will take you directly to KTEL Chalkidikis. The buses from KTEL Chalkidiki do not make frequent rides and the price for the tickets vary based on your destination. We therefore recommend reserving your seat in advance to avoid missing a spot on the bus. The ticket can only be bought on the station in ticket selling booths, so we advise you to come few minutes earlier in order to purchase it in time. Thessaloniki is connected by bus and train to Athens and many other towns of Greece. These buses arrive in Macedonia KTEL Station, so passengers have to take the Bus 45 or taxi to the Halkidiki KTEL Station. Bus 45 serves the route: KTEL Macedonia - New Railway Station - KTEL Halkidiki (every 20 min).
